Battle Of Trafalgar

How much do you know about the Battle of Trafalgar and its' impact in Europe?

Battle of Trafalgar

The Battle of Trafalgar was fought on the 21st of October 1805 off Cape Trafalgar on the Spanish coast, between the combined fleets of Spain and France and the Royal Navy. It was the last great sea action of the period and its significance to the outcome of the war in Europe is still debated by historians.

Gloating just isn't done here, however. So instead of staging a re-enactment that pits the British fleet against the French and Spanish armadas, the modern conflict has red-flagged ships battling blue. Although the Royal Navy is coy about which color will represent which side, the ship representing Nelson's HMS Victory will fly a red flag.

Coming at a time when British-French relations are severely strained over Iraq and the future direction of the European Union, the decision to fudge history in the name of political correctness has some Britons angrily asking what is wrong with waving the flag.

Trafalgar Battle

Its odd how the practice of conquering other countries is still being done by the more powerful countries in the world. However, this battle was spectacular and Britain at least had its hands full. I thing that they should not be doing re-enactments of a battle that essentially took land from people who still wish to be free from British rule. No matter how they do the re-enactment, its still going to look like its being thrown in their face, year after year.
