Yes you are right. They are also using old weapons. Nevertheless the Real IRA are very ruthless and in this latest attack they killed civilians also when there was no need to. Maybe I should start a new Thread on them.

They take their stance from the "mission statement/oath" that the original IRA's members held to way back before the Easter Rising. It was the goal the combined a few of the major Irish Freedom movements. One of the keys to it was not to settle for anything less than a totally free Ireland (north and south). It was spelled out that it had to be totally free. This was a major point of contention that De Valera and many had with the peace treaty that was brought back by Collins and Co and resulted in a brief civil war. The Irish contingent at the peace treaty had trouble with rationalizing the proposed treaty, but the threat of war at the time by England (WWI was over) was too great.

I believe that this thinking among a few still today plus the high unemployement is sparking some of the activity that we are seeing. Idle hands are the devils workshop...
