Reuters - Russia's long winter will just fly by for a herd of Russian cows which, a newspaper reported on Tuesday, will be fed confiscated marijuana over the cold months.

I find the reasoning to be confusing. Actually, the article doesn't seem clear.

First it says they had to destroy the sunflowers and maize, then the next paragraph indicates they can't remove the marijuana because it will kill the feed crops?
Also, does anyone know if large quantities of marijuana injested as food is even safe? I know people use it in brownies and supposedly get high this way. Does this mean the cows will be high all winter. Also, large quantities of marijuana over a period of time can lead to depression. Will the cows begin manifested such symptoms?
