Be Glad

In numerous parts of the Bible the Lord makes it clear that even though we have to 'pick up the cross and follow Him', it does not mean we must have a countenance of gloom and doom. We are told to be of good cheer, be glad. The question is, how are you able to do this in your own life when everything else seems to point towards no hope?

Psalm 118:24
This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Matthew 5:12
Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

1 Peter 4:13
But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Glad Be

For me, there are many reasons to have joy even with all around seems terrible.

One, I realize that there are many far worse off than I am. It may be true that some on this forum may be worse off than I, but even so, even they cannot say that they are worse off than everyone else in the world. The fact that you can access this forum shows that in some ways you are better off than most people living in the world.

I always have enough food to eat. I always have enough money to keep a roof over my head. I have never been homeless. I have many good friends. I have my health. I know the Lord loves me. I am blessed in many ways. Even if I didn't have my health or some other bad thing happened to me, I would still have plenty of good to look at and upon which to focus.

I think we need to remember that we can choose to focus on the good or the bad. Which one we choose to focus on is the one that will control how we spend most of our days, feeling good or feeling bad.

Be Glad Revealed Bible The

One of my favorite encouragement verses is James 1:2-3:

Consider it pure joy, my brethren, when you face trials of many kinds because the testing of your faith develops perseverence.

That has been one of my life lines for about eight years. Trials are what make us stronger, and even though it hurts and it's rough, God makes it worth it when we stick in there. It's hard to put a smile on your face when everything seems to be going wrong, but I have found it always makes things seem less as severe.

God gives us so much to be glad and happy for, and sometimes we forget that. There are so many little, daily blessings He gives us that we should be glad.

Glad Be

It heartens me that my Creator wishes me to have joy, and to be joyful! I tend to be cheerful by nature, but true happiness and joyfulness can often be hard to recognize, particularly during trials. However, I know each and every day that I am known and loved by my Heavenly Father, and that he cares for me and desires for me to be happy. And so I try to find the beauty and joy in every day. I'm not always successful, but I know that I am happier for striving.
