Not all stories have to become a novel or be long enough to make volumes, but they can be short and sweet. Which short story is your favorite and why?

That's a tough one, there are a lot of good short stories out there.

Asimov's "The machine that one the war" had a really nice twist ending

Bradbury's "The Toyenby Convector" also had a very nifty twist ending

I loved Lovecraft's "Beyond the veil of sleep" that guy could have been peeking in on my dreams to have written something like that

I don't know that I have a favorite, I read a lot of short stories, and there are a lot of very good ones out there.

My favorite short story author is jorge luis borges. He has amazing and revolutionary ideas in each story. I like all of his stories, but probably the library of babel the best.

It's tough to pick just one. I love The One Billion Names of God because of the eerie ending it had. I also enjoy The Days of Perky Pat (I may have the title off a bit) simply because of the addictive nature of the Sims games. With the release of the Sims 2 the parrallels are even closer.

I'm stuck in a tie between Wet Wings by Mercedes Lackey and Isaac Asimov's Lenny. I find that both are entertaining as well as thought provoking, especially Lenny.

Yep and he was an Argentinian! wink.gif

One of my favourite short stories are "A MEDICINE FOR MELANCHOLY" "THE GIFT" "THE DAY IT RAINED FOREVER" and "THE MARRIAGE MENDER" all of them from the genius Ray Bradbury. smile.gif

I know, I first read his stories in Israel, where there is a large variety of translated books. Have you read any short stories of his, LDS? If you did, what did you think about them?

As you can imagine, he was a very respected author in my country (not everyone think that way though...he spent too much time talking about Europe and he wanted to die there and some people saw it as an insult...but that's for another thread).
Yes, I read some of the stories of Borges such as the Aleph. Excellent stories although I found that in the original spanish version some of the words he uses are way to hard to understand...also he mix several languages too which makes the interpretation of the story even harder.
