Controversy Biggest

The first thing that comes to mind is how the government (being city, state, and national) handled the evacuation and relief assistance of the lower US states that were effected by the hurricanes this year.

The mayor says the national government didn't want to help.
The national government says they offered and he said he didn't need any.
The state wants to know why they were not included in that conversation.
The people want to know why more wasn't done prior to landfall.
The news last night reported that hospitals were not following procedures for victims that were coming in directly after the storm passed. (possibly helping them die in peace rather than help - so were the accusations)
Mississippi wants to know why they are not being included in the media when they were hit harder than Louisiana. (answering - they were not under water)

Just the first thing that I had on my mind, but may not actually be the most controversal.

Biggest Controversy 2005 History & Civil Business Politics

My choice would be the War in Iraq and the fact that coalition political leaders have all admitted they lied to justify the invasion.

I'm certain there are far worse political scandals around the world in Africa, parts of Asia etc. But on the scope of international news coverage, I believe the admissions that there was no WMDs or threat posed by Iraq are a political scandal with devastating consequences.

Tens of thousands of innocent lives have been lost by this illegal invasion and Iraq is in disarray. It is also worth noting that these lies weren't revealed until after both the Australian and US elections.

I also think the CIA prisons dotted around the world for extraordinary rendition are a pretty close second.

Oh definetly the war in Iraq. The biggest controversy is the reasons for the invasion and later on their controversy of saying they did not have really proof of WMD.

Add my agreement. When it comes to scandals and controversys that effected the world, the war in Iraq is the biggest. No WMD's, No secret stock piles of chemical weapons, this will go down in the history books.
