TOKYO (Reuters) - A Japanese driver, afraid of having to take a breath-test, fled a police drink-driving checkpoint even though he was well under the legal alcohol limit, but ended up crashing his car.

I was stopped for speeding once on my birthday and I had been drinking. It is the only time I made the mistake, and had never before or since have I drank and driven. But the night, I was pulled over. The cop, fortunately was an old friend of mine. He and I had a mutual friend who had died of Cancer and we had grown apart. He let me drive home, but escorted me there. It was the closest I ever came, and I learned my lesson. Breath tests are fairly accurate. If you want, you can request a blood test which doesn't lie. Obviously you only do this if you definitely haven't been drinking.
