Did you die? Why not discuss what you could have done better here so that it does not happen again.

[Medieval] Players' Journal

The Game Master says...

Players' Journal

A guide to remember what worked, what didn't

What is this thread for?
In this thread players can comment about things that they did really good because they used some tactic, strategy or preparation. They may also mention things that they did really bad so that another player does not make the same mistake again.

Example: Hey guys, if you plan to light a fire in the woods, it sure is good if you take some flint with you. Last time I forgot mine and we could not get a fire lit for a whole hour.

Here are a few tips from me... the GM:

1. If they are more - run!
I can never understand players that see 20 enemies and openly attack with a group of five or six.

2. Plan your attack!
Do not just say 'attack', make sure to have a plan like... thieves will be at one corner with bows ready, fighters to the front with swords and the magicians will hide behind the rocks to cast their spells

3. Poke, poke, poke... When in a dungeon do not just walk aimlessly, study areas, check hidden places, look for cracks or secret passages, smell, listen and remain calm so you can gain clues. Make sure to use your sword or a rod to poke the ground ahead of you for traps.

4. Don't give free info... If you tell every NPC where you are going they may just follow and bring their friends with them and not to help you out.

5. First time playing? - please create a warrior and make sure the body count is high! Buy armor, buy armor, buy armor... understand?

Note: THIS IS NOT CAMP! This is not the thread to discuss a current scenario. Use the camp thread for that. Do not put things that worked in other gaming systems, it may not work here.

I know for sure that if each person has their own horse then the group can move fast without having to stop and rest too much. horses are good for escape too.

I think buying good armor is important. there is another game I play where you have to use armor cause if you don't your character dies really fast in a fight

VERY IMPORTANT: NEVER RUN INTO BATTLE WITH ALL YOUR STUFF!
This will get you killed.

Okay, one thing. Never try and get a character with 4 body to hike 60 miles....it just doesn't work...laugh.gif.

If you're going into a mine or some other place with tunnels/corridors, etc, buy paper and quill and ink to mark your place! I got really confused in the gold mine.

I think it is important to read all the hints for survival that JB posts in the thread here about it. I found it very helpful in remaining alive. Also, rather than just go headlong into a battle, plan what you are going to do as though you really were alive. If you can avoid the fight avoid the fight. You might not get the prize, but you are more likely to live.

I am hopeful that as you live longer and your character's experience level increases you might find yourself at an advantage when looking for gold in future scenarios. We shall see!
