Mate In Four Moves - Page 2

The shortest game by world class players was played in Paris in 1924 between Amedee Gibaud and Frederic Lazard. 1. D4 Nf6; 2. Nd2 e5; 3. Dxe5 Ng4; 4. h3 Ne3; White Resigns. The 2...e5 gambit is named after Lazard (A45).

Moves In Mate

I read somewhere that the Amedee Gibaud and Frederic Lazard game was a hoax and the wrong players are credited / discredited - but it certainly is a clever move. It's actually more of a sacrifice your Queen else checkmate kind of move.

I am disappointed to hear that perhaps the game isn't authentic. I have four games by these same players in my 3 million game database. It makes me wonder how many others may be composed.

Well that is what I read, do not quote me as sure source, however were a play to take place like that it would certainly be a classic.

Not related to this but there is a TWO move check mate too that most people do not know about.
