My siblings and some of my closest friends were there for that world breaking event. A wild gathering, one I hope to attend next year, this year was too hectic to even try.

That must have been a very colorful site. Its kind of funny to see when strong comic characters are portrayed by not so strong people.

More like the idols being idolized by those that want to be. I still think it is sad that we only see the side of super heroes being victorious over villians but never there involvement in the community.

For instance a city block is wasted in epic battle. The heroes are victorious and hailed by the living citizenry. What of those who died in the decimated city block. What about those whose homes lay ruined. What about the livelihoods lost? These are things that never get addressed or redressed in any comic book I have ever read.

Those things have been addressed, just look at how everyone treats the Hulk but anyway this is about the con and I wanted to say that I'm surprised Japan isn't the record holder because they're like the fanatics of dressing up. They will probably be next to break it.

With our larger population in the US, I'd say that the Japanese people's love of cosplay could not match the numbers of people we have willing to dress up for a big event like a world record's breaking. If you accept the proliferation of Comic-Cons here in the US as proof, there can be no denying the cultural shift to a love for comics and their many characters. I'm sure that record will fall in the next year.

MalcolmShaw, I'm not certain about DC Comics or the independents, but the Marvel Universe has a few systems in place that help repair the damage from super-battles. There is an actual company called, I believe, Damage Inc. That specifically exists to take care of widespread devastation, focussing on Manhattan, the home of the majority of costumed characters capable of such damage. Stark Enterprises (And Tony Stark's other companies he ends up spinning off) also performs widespread humanitarian aid. This was once supremely useful to reduce the backlash of public opinion of a company making weapons of war, but he uses the aid network to help with worldwide damage, especially that caused in Avengers conflicts. He references this in the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie, after his Iron Legion helps to diffuse the situation and minimize casualties in the opening battle. The reason I was so shocked at the ending of the first Iron Man movie was when Tony Stark admitted to being Iron Man, he opened himself to the inevitable blame for the damage caused in his battles and endless wrongful death and civilian suits. The comic character had skated from that for decades by keeping his identity secret.
