PROSTHETICS CAN BE ANCHORED TO BONE
Titanium screws implanted in the bone form a stable anchor for an artificial leg, providing more flexibility and general quality of life, according to a Norwegian man who has experienced both traditional and `osseointegrated` prosthetic legs. The same technique can also be used to anchor artificial arms.

Osseointegration, I believe, is currently used in the world of dentistry to implant new teeth. I wasn't able to read the article quoted, but I assume the risks were also discussed, as all procedures carry their own risks. My guess would be that the bone is slightly weakened if the artificial limb is actually anchored into it. However, it may not be weakened enough to where a man or woman would expect to see ill-effects during their lifetime.
