When I read this news I was shocked by it, this guy makes me so sick...even though he did not kill the girl, he deserves hanging (and yes, death penalty is allowed in Trinidad and Tobago)

David Herel, 31, of Amaroosingh Street, Longdenville, was also found guilty of two charges of false imprisonment, but not guilty of robbing his teenaged victim and her elder sister of $67 on April 15, 1999, after deliberating for the mandatory three hours.
This was Herel's third trial for the same offences. A jury had failed to agree in October 2004 and he was ordered to face a retrial and again in October 2005, when his trial was aborted after prejudicial evidence was admitted before the jury.
State prosecutors Nalini Singh and Renuka Rambhajan led evidence from the two sisters who testified that they were awaiting transportation along the Chaguanas Main Road around 9 p.m. When Herel, driving a private car, stopped and they entered the back seat of the vehicle.
He offered to drop the girls off at their Las Lomas home for the extra fare but along the way turned off into Ramgoolie Trace and whipped out a cutlass. He locked the elder sister, who was then 24, in the trunk of the car, and stripped the clothing off the younger girl.
He threw the teenager face-down on the trunk of the car and used the cutlass to cut open her vagina when he was having difficulty during penetration....

He got 20 years on the charge of rape, ten years on the charge of wounding and five years each on the charges of false imprisonment BUT he got away with corporal punishment which in my opinion should have been a MUST based on the pain this beast made this little girl go through.

Why would he only get such a lenient sentence? 35 years, in my opinion, is not enough for someone like that. Did he express any remorse in what he had done?

Who cares if he has remorse... the guy needs to face the gallows. Not very 'kind' on my part, but I tell you... somebody that will go to such lengths will not stop unless someone STOPS them. I believe I discussed this in another thread about the over development of the pituitary gland and sex / violence being combined.
