Adhd and Parenting Poor

I wouldn't quite say absolutely not, but pretty close,on the whole I wouldn't even connect the two. Obviously there are going to be the odd case where there has been no attention payed to the child from the parents, and the child is desperate for attention, be it negative or positive, and will 'test' the parents.
On the whole though, I believe there is normally some genetic makeup of this disorder, ie-- the parents may/may not have this disorder, but you will normally find some level of this disorder displayed somewhere in the parents ancestors/relatives.

It is a lack of understanding/ignorance of these disorders by others to assume that it has been brought on by bad parenting.

For example--I help work with a child at our church with ADHD, his parents are wealthy/affluential.There are 3 children in total, only one has ADHD, his mother stayed at home with the children when they were little, so they were never 'pushed' onto anybody else. The mother is a trained teacher with years experience, and financially they want for nothing-- my point being-- Why has only 1 child got ADHD from this family, they have all had the same upbringing/experiences/opportunities, there is absolutely nothing in this family to suggest bad parenting, they are loving supportive parents.

Surely in the rare cases where it could be suggested to be down to bad parenting all the children would present signs of ADHD

Incidentally, I am not suggesting that a family that does have several children with ADHD has been caused by the parents, this would be dangerous ground, and would also appear to me to fit in with the theory of the disorder that could have been inherited.

Poor parenting may cause a spoiled, out of control child but it does not cause ADHD or anything similar. ADHD is caused by chemical imabalance in or malfunctioning of the brain, especially the sensory processing areas. Some out of control kids, most in fact, are spoiled children lacking discipline, but some actualy have brain issues. The poor parenting comes in where the parents refuse to do anything to help their child and instead let them run wild. It's a hateful thing to have to give your child class D narcotics or similar medications but if that child can't learn him/herself and disrupts the environment and prevents others from learning or imposes on other's peace of mind then medications are indicated, period. ADHD nor any other disability should be used as an excuse to be rude or be a poor parent. Parent's should do everything in their power to make sure their child can live as functional and as independent a life as possible.

Ouch! Avoiding failure leads to missed opportunities for children with ADHD

Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are potentially more exposed to reproaches than typically developing children, explain researchers. A behavioral experiment on reward and punishment highlights the cumulative effect of punishment in children with ADHD. Ref. Source 2z.

ADHD kids can be still, if they're not straining their brains. Lack of motivation or boredom with school isn't to blame for squirming by children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Symptoms such as fidgeting, foot-tapping and chair-swiveling are triggered by cognitively demanding tasks - like school and homework. But movies and video games don't typically require brain strain, so the excessive movement doesn't manifest. Source 2c.

Poor Parenting & Adhd

I don't think that poor parenting is the cause of adhd. Maybe it is but I don't know.
