Libya's Gaddafi lectures U.S. on democracy

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi lectured a U.S. audience on democracy on Thursday and said Libya is the only real democracy in the world. Via a video link, Gaddafi addressed an unprecedented gathering of U.S. and Libyan academics prompted by a thaw in relations since the former pariah state decided in 2003 to abandon nuclear weapons and took responsibility for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing. He touted Libya's political system as superior to "farcical" and "fake" parliamentary and representative democracies in the West."

OUCH!

When Libya is lecturing the US on democracy, is it time to start taking a look at our government when the world views us as a fake democracy? Its shameful to have someone telling the supposed 'pinnacle' of democracy that they are a sham and only a shadow of what democracy can be. To hold themselves up as an example to the US tells me that we as a country have strayed to far from the bounds of true freedom and democracy and need to take a second look at were this country is going!

I don't think Lybia should be lecturing other countries on democracy. Mind you, nor should the US.

And regardless of what Gaddafi believes, I think a free press is fundamental to any democracy. People need to be informed about what is going on to really enjoy true freedom.

The US is losing its place as the pinnacle of democracy because of the way it forces its beliefs on other countries and people, which is not very democratic. Iraq and Guantanamo Bay are two examples.

To be honest, this makes perfect sense. They have given themselves over to complete investigations regarding nuclear and terrorist activities in the last two years. Its rather amusing to me, that as soon as they invaded Iraq, they threw up their hands and begged to have inspectors come into the country! But since we can find no wrong and they are cooperating, they deserve to be taken off all bad lists from the US.

Libya Politics

A democracy where the leader has held power for 37 years with no elections, supports(at least privatly), terrorism on opposing views, supports state terrorism, and has this "Libya is the best country in the world, no one else is better", attitude?

Well, it seems that Libya has their own version of the National Endowment for the Arts. While it looks as though Saddam will not remain in bronze anywhere in Iraq, he will have a new home in Libya, as granted by the Great General himself.

The only good part is that he will be forever immortalized on a gallows. I am sure the birds will love it!
