Yay for another Jane Austin fan! I love the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice. I bought it on DVD about a year ago, and I cannot tell you how many times I have watched the five hour movie. I really want to see the original Pride and Prejudice with Lawrence Olivier. I have seen bits and pieces of it, but not in its entirety.
Have you seen the newest movie with Keira Knightly in it? I wasn't too sure about it from some of the previews I saw.
The thing that has stuck out in my mind about the new one is part of a preview I saw. She was sitting, wrapped up in a blanket, and he was kissing her. My jaw dropped because they didn't kiss until the end. I am really hoping they didn't modernize a classic story.
The thing about Elizabeth Bennet is that she is supposed to be plain, but beautiful. The woman that played her in the Colin Firth edition was perfect because she looked like your normal woman. She wasn't some gorgeous model, but her appearance almost grows on you like it does with Mr. Darcy. Our minds are so used to the heroine being some drop dead hot 'babe' that a normal looking person almost seems awkward.
I haven't even heard of Pemberly. Did Austin write it? I have tried to sit down and read Mansfield Park a few times, but I just don't have the time to dedicate to it at the moment. With her writing, I have to be able to sit for hours at a time, uninterupted.
