Who do you claim as your hero (past or present) from among the Native American Nations?

I do not have native blood in me. I don't have a rich long heritage of Native Americans in my past. But I do know that you don't have to look far to find a real hero when digging into Native American history. One such hero that is easy to find is Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce. After continues fighting and re-negotiations of treaties with the American government, Chief Joseph said is famous quote:

Ultimately he lost his fight with the government, being forced into a small reservation in Oklahoma.

I've always been very impressed by Jim Thorpe. He competed in the 1912 Olympics and was called the greatest athlete of his time. He spent his life playing or managing football and baseball. He was voted greatest athlete of the first half of the century. For those that care to learn more about him there are a couple of websites describing his life.
