I'd be inclined to stick someone with that problem in front of a diffuser with some manner of pleasant scent. Instructions to breath deep are easier to recall when there's reason to do so anyway.

Nausea Health & Special Psychology

I always try to take deep breathes when I feel a bit under the weather as a way to help flush stuff out of my system. I think it helps me in those cases but to see that it is advised to help in some circumstances helps.
