Da Vinci Code For Mormons?

I think this is a particularly interesting little piece of news.

A mason, and not a carpenter? Possibly ...
By Jerry Johnston

QUOTE
Dan Brown, author of "The Da Vinci Code," is hard at work on another thriller. This time, he says, the book will explore the inner world of the Masons and the Mormons.
I'm sure it will be a blockbuster filled with symbols and assassins and sultry seductresses.
I'm sure the Masons and Mormons can't wait.

What caught my attention first of all was, of course, the thought that Dan Brown might be writing a new book sensationalizing the Freemasonry connection to Mormonism. I am very open minded on this issue, but I am sure that Dan Brown will make it sound very sinister. But it could be a very interesting book.

Now, will the fundamentalists and Catholics still scream about Dan Brown when he is distorting Mormon beliefs? I look forward to this one.

But - There's MORE to the article. And I will talk about it in the LDS Deep Doctrine Board. What if Jesus was actually a stonemason instead of a carpenter?

I remember hearing about this and really thought that I had put a Thread about it here, but in any case, the Church is getting more and more spotlight despite their 'low profile' stance of recent years. I am interested to see how they will handle this one.

Fascinating! I've really enjoyed Da Vinci Code, and I'm sure I'll also enjoy Masons/Mormons "secrets" revealed. And I'm sure it will be interesting to see the reaction of LDS and non-LDS in the aftermath.

However, I really doubt they'll make a movie out of it.

At first I didn't like this news, but any news is good news for our church because we have nothing to hide. Some people investigate our church because they want to find flaws in it, then they end up converting. I'm interested what he "finds out" about our church.

Oh? How did you reach that conclusion? There are many things about Church history that the Church goes to great lengths to 'forget' or not entertain at all. Also, I would not say 'any' news is good for the Church, an example is Warren Jeffs, although he is not a member, yet many who do not understand the differences will see him as all part of the same organization.

Yes, some are converted, but that is a few out of many who are negatively impacted, and it will only get worst.

But the things that we hide are not things that have anything to do with church doctrine or the "meat" of our church. The things that we'd like to forget are things done by the members themselves. I should've been more clear in my post, because I don't agree with people spreading bad "news" about our church, or those who claim to be affiliated with our church but aren't actually members. If this book even gets made, I doubt it'll be in favor of our church, but it may cause people to become interested (aside from people being drawn away). It's kind of too soon to tell what will happen.

You may need to watch your writing, give it more thought... now you are saying that we [Church] does hide. I think it is these kinds of blurbs is what people like Dan Brown can play on, don't you think?

My point here is that if such things are explained in more detail or should I say more pronounced then Dan Brown would have no substance in his words - thus no surprises to found. This will appeal to those who are just Members through baptism, but not in heart.
