QUOTE

More than 700 men from the 1st Newfoundland Regiment were killed or wounded in a matter of minutes as the Somme offensive got underway in France on July 1, 1916 - a 90-per-cent casualty rate. The next day, only 68 men from the regiment were able to answer the roll call.

Thats a battle that should never be forgotten. A death toll like that only gets absorbed when it is for a cause you truly believe in. Soldiers willing to make that kind of sacrifice deserve to have both them and their cause remembered.
