Cannot Read CD or DVD

What do you normally do when you Cannot Read CD or DVD? I hate having a DVD-R or CD-R with important data but your machine keeps telling you that it cannot read it because something on the DVD/CD is not readable or corrupted. Do you have a special program that you use to get the info?

I have tried EasyRecovery, but it could not read it either.

Have you tried simply running them through a dvd/cd cleaner/repair machine? They are fairly cheap and have saved my data a few times. As for if the actual data is corrupted, I have not found a program that is reasonably priced that can recover the data.
