I personally have entered many competitions. I am the 2000 Paved oval national champion. I also have won 11 regional championships.
There are many types of scale racing, ie: off-road trucks, and buggies, Oval (nascar type), dirt oval, onroad ( traditional road racing type).
In order to compete at a national or world level one must compete in a local or regional event. In the U.S.A. there is 14 different regions
There are cash prizes available. Some races pay from 500$ to 25,000$ in cash prizes.
Various titles are, regional, National, and World champion.
The 2006 World championships were held in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and I was unable to attend. The schedual is not set for 2007 yet.
I would like to ad that I have been in the top10 in the Nation for the past 10 years, and will someday own a World championship! Edited: rccarpy on 17th Oct, 2006 - 6:02am

Usally I build about 10 cars a race year, all cost about the same, 2-3k when race ready. You can only imagine how many I have after being in the sport( hobby) for 13 years..granted some get trashed in wrecks and so forth.
I started back in 1989 locally, then I started to travel and race more.
There are a few really good women racers, and a hand full of them have major wins.
