Too funny! This failure/Crisis has been going on for about a year now and Wall St knew it because that is why these banks stocks tanked. They didnt just tank in the last month. They slowly dropped over the last year. So John is going to take a week off the stump to right the ship? Does he have any handlers or does he just come up with this stuff by himself. You know John...when/if you become President and things get tough...you cant just call a time out. GEEZ and that VP pick was soo good and now this...

I think that he is wanting to place some window dressing on to show that he is a caring person that wants to show he is trying to help the people.

Here's a different take on McCain's decision to work on the economic crisis and suspend his campaign. From CNN:

QUOTE
This week, President Bush warned that our current situation threatens not just the lending industry but also the entire U.S. economy.

After all the doom and gloom, pundits were then surprised when McCain decided to temporarily suspend his presidential campaign and return to his day job in Congress, where he tried to work out a bailout deal with his colleagues. Well at least most of his colleagues.

Despite having decried the economic crisis in near-apocalyptic terms in an attempt to lay blame on President Bush and, by association, McCain, the junior senator from Illinois didn't feel the urgency to show up for work and try to do what he could to address it. Obama certainly has standing and more than his share of influence. This is, after all, the de-facto leader of the Democratic Party.

Unfortunately, he also looks like someone who is so focused on what he hopes will be his next job that he has lost interest in his current one.

McCain showed real leadership this week. And frankly, if we were more accustomed to seeing that sort of thing from our elected officials, we might be less cynical and better able to recognize it on the rare occasions when it surfaces.

... This issue is as difficult as they come. I get that. It requires making sacrifices, wrestling with tough choices and telling Americans the hard and unpleasant truth -- all the things that politicians hate to do.

Too bad. The presidential candidates can't run from this issue any more than the rest of the country can. That's why both of them should have cleared their plate and gotten to work on a solution. But only one did.

John McCain Can Still Win Electoral College, Needs 9 Battleground States

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The downturn in the economy has given Barack Obama a lead over John McCain nationwide and in virtually all of the battleground states. In the latest LifeNews.com electoral college analysis, McCain would need to win nine of the battleground states still in play to capture the presidency. Most political observers say there are as many as 14 battleground states in play this election and those states comprise a few Western states, most of the industrial Midwest and four states on the lower Atlantic coast. In the latest analysis, it appears Obama has solid leads in a handful of states that have gone Democrat in the most recent elections. McCain has hoped to compete in places like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, New Hampshire and Wisconsin. Those are trending to Obama now. That leaves the following states in the battleground category still in play: Ohio, Virginia, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Georgia, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada. Until lately, most of them have solidly been in the McCain corner. There are six reasons for McCain to find good news in this list of states.

Former McCain Supporter Accuses the Senator of "Deliberately Feeding the Most Unhinged Elements of Our Society the Red Meat of Hate"

Frank Schaeffer is the bestselling author of Crazy for God: How I Grew Up as One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right, and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back. He is the son of the late evangelist Francis Schaeffer and considered himself a lifelong Republican. He voted for John McCain in 2000, and McCain even endorsed one of Schaeffer's earlier books on military service. But on Friday, Schaeffer published an open letter to McCain excoriating the Arizona senator.

From the interview with this Frank Schaeffer:

QUOTE
But I actually believe that if your interest is not ideology and ideological purity, but rather abortion itself, I.e. you want more or less abortions, that the medical and social programs that Barack Obama is talking about for our country, in terms of care of women and children and families, improvement in education and possibilities for all Americans, actually will result in less abortions. So my interest in the abortion issue is that I think abortion is a tragedy. My interest is not the politics of it, as in always appearing to vote for the person who has the correct ideology.

And so, I think there's a choice for Americans interested in this issue who are like me, pro-life, and that is, do you want to choose ideological purity attached to a party that will so destroy our economy and all the social programs that there will be more abortions, I.e. as there have been through the Republican-controlled years, when they"ve been talking about this issue for thirty years and done nothing about it for actually helping women and children, or would you rather have a president like Barack Obama, who you disagree with on this one ideological point, in terms of what you might call the theology of the issue, but whose program would practically result in a more conducive environment for families to prosper, for people to have children, for kids to go to school, for women to be taken care of? And I would rather vote for a person who's going to do the job rather than just have the correct ideology.

This is the part where he says that McCain and Palin are actually stirring up the "lunatic fringe" of America and they will be responsible for the violent consequences that he believes will inevitably follow.
QUOTE
"John McCain, you are no fool, and you understand the depths of hatred that [surround] the issue of race in this country. You also know that, post-9/11, to call someone a friend of a terrorist is a very serious matter. You also know we are [a bitterly divided country] on many other issues. You know that, sadly, in America, violence is always just a moment away. You know that there are plenty of crazy people out there.

"Stop! Think! Your rallies are beginning to look, sound, feel and smell like lynch mobs.

"John McCain, you"re walking a perilous line. If you do not stand up for all that is good in America and declare that Senator Obama is a patriot, fit for office, and denounce your hate-filled supporters when they scream out "Terrorist" or "Kill him," history will hold you responsible for all that follows.

"John McCain and Sarah Palin, you are playing with fire, and you know it. You are unleashing the monster of American hatred and prejudice, to the peril of all of us. You are doing this in wartime. You are doing this as our economy collapses. You are doing this in a country with a history of assassinations.

"Change the atmosphere of your campaign. Talk about the issues at hand. Make your case. But stop stirring up the lunatic fringe of haters, or risk suffering the judgment of history and the loathing of the American people-forever...."

Do you think McCain and Palin are doing this? I haven't heard this from any other news reports, and I haven't been able to watch the campaign rallies since we don't have TV in our home. Is this accusation true?

Interesting, so we now are turning into a Theocracy?

QUOTE
Theocracy - Government of a state by immediate divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as divinely guided

Interesting, I thought the founding fathers wanted a Constitutional republic?

QUOTE
Constitutional republic - A government where the head of state and other officials are elected as representatives of the people, and must govern according to existing constitutional law that limits the government's power over citizens

Also when Thomas Jefferson wrote that there should be a separation between state and church. I hate it when both parties use religion, if you can't already tell. Anyways, I don't believe that this

"lunatic fringe"

Is actually what McCain and Palin meant to stir. It's kind of like that little kid that tries to get the cookie out of the cookie jar. He destroys your entire kitchen, but as long as he gets his cookie, he is fine. This is kind of what I think happened. Both of these "Mavericks" tried getting people to not like Obama's background, but I don't think he meant for things to get violent. Still, if he does do this just to try and get people killed, hoping Obama gets killed... well, that is completely unacceptable, I do have respect for McCain, and at one point in time, would have voted for him. If he actually is doing this, there will be chaos, but for starters, who would run for president if both candidates are gone? Or would the speaker of the house assume that position?

Also, that is an awesome guy Frank Schaeffer. I have never seen someone like him, I am looking at the Books he wrote:

QUOTE
He is also known for his best selling non-fiction books related to the United States Marine Corps, including Keeping Faith--A Father-Son Story About Love and the United States Marine Corps, co-written with his son John Schaeffer, and AWOL--The Unexcused Absence Of America's Upper Classes From Military Service and How It Hurts Our Country

Rather off topic, but...
I would have thought this guy a major right-winger! But I even agree with his views with Russia!

Trailing in Polls, McCain Campaign Intensifies Attacks on Obama

With Election Day less than two weeks away, the McCain campaign is stepping up its attacks on front-runner Barack Obama. Republicans have resorted to several lines of attack on Obama: painting him as a socialist, branding him "anti-American" and using automated robocalls in at least ten battleground states. We speak to David Corn of Mother Jones.
