Spirit Holy Ghost Holy

Translating from Greek, ghost and spirit are the same word. They are both translated from the Greek word pneuma. The difference in translation only occurs in the King James Version in which pneuma is translated as ghost over 90 times and translated as spirit only 7 times. Oddly enough, the translation is exclusively spirit in most other versions of the bible.

One explanation for this is that the term ghost is used for an internal reference, such as "He was filled with the holy ghost" and the term spirit is used to indicate an external reference such as "He was moved by the spirit". This theory holds up in most circumstances. The term ghost later began to mean a roaming or lost spirit and the translation was dropped from most biblical versions after the King James Version.
