CHRISTMAS TREE BANNED FROM COURTHOUSE LOBBY

A Toronto judge has banished a Christmas tree from the lobby of a provincial courthouse, saying the "Christian symbol" might alienate people of other faiths.

Banned Tree Christmas

What the heck? rolleyes.gif Since when a tree is a Christian symbol? This is the stupidest thing I heard in a while. From the article:

QUOTE
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty called it an "unfortunate" incident.

"I think it reflects a mistaken understanding of what we're trying to do here," said McGuinty.

He said the province is working hard to build a pluralistic multicultural society and that means celebrating all traditions, not asking some to abandon them.

"It doesn't offend anyone when we celebrate Diwali at Queen's Park or celebrate Hanukkah at Queen's Park," he said. "It's part of who we are."

Exactly! This world is becoming more and more Anti-Christian. Shame.

A pine tree in of itself is not a Christian symbol. The Christmas tree, with the decorations (candles, lights, tinsel, ect) is normally a symbol of Christmas... so it is kind of a Christian symbol. I think the Germans started using them and it caught on.

You didn't know that it's now acceptable to rail against Christens? Soon it will become the number one sport in the United States.
If a muslim doesn't want to show their face on a drivers license, that's fine. Mexicans are concerned that a talking DOG is misrepresenting them, the dog goes away. Now if someone were to put up Christmas decorations in a public area during Christmas, God help you.

Wouldn't the constant Christmas commercials be far more alienating, these seem to be mostly left alone. Besides, if the tree's enough to shake their faith, they probably were not going to stay in that religion very long.

Banned Tree Christmas

This is just political correctness gone mad! Other faiths dictate how we should respect their beliefs, I can't see why we can't accommodate each others religions and festivities without having to isolate and run down any for the sake of others. It's all very miserable, especially when you see that people are basically arguing over a 'decorated tree'.

This reminded me of a few weeks ago, when in a UK shopping centre a group of children singing Christmas carols were evicted from the shopping centre by police, who had been called in because the children were 'singing too loudly'.

What the heck is all this about? It's certainly a crazy world!
