Police arrested a 37-year-old man Monday morning on suspicion of murdering five prostitutes in eastern England, a senior officer said.

I was trying to find his profile on Myspace but I could not. Well, we do not know as yet if he killed them since they police talked with more than 400 men but is a possibility since he was the one that hinted something about the murders and like most serial killers, they want to be caught.

It is true that this man claims to have known all of the victims, through prostitution, but the police have had to take him in for questioning due to the fact that a daily paper published his name, and the police had to then act upon it.
The first 2 victims were found in water, whereas the last 3 victims were found near woodland, at first because of this the police thought they were dealing with a serial killer and also a copycat killer. The police are now basing their search on looking for just 1 killer who has changed his tactics.
Last week, when 2 bodies had been found, reporters interviewed local prostitutes in the Ipswich area, and one of the prostitutes they interviewed said that although a police hunt was on for a killer, she would still be out on the streets that night, as she needed the money.
Sadly, she ended up being one of the following victims, it is horrible for the nation to have heard her interview on every radio station, then to read about her death printed in every national paper.
I hope that this is the right man that they have in custody, and that the police can rid him off the streets forever.

Why serial killers target prostitutes

The interesting thing about this particular case is that if the guy the police has in custody should have not mention anything on the interview he gave to a newspaper, probably he would not have been in custody today.
Interesting article, particularly because it points out that there is a lot of myth involved in "serial killers" not all of them had a traumatic childhood and so on, I suppose we say those things in order to try to understand why someone would do something so horrible. In this case, as the article states, prostitutes are a target because who is going to make a report about a missing prostitute? Another prostitute?

The police here have now changed back to the theory that they are dealing in fact with 2 separate killers.
They have just arrested another man, who is totally separate from the first man that they have in custody.
They can keep the first man in custody until around 8am tomorrow(Friday)
Hopefully they will be able to fathom all that is happening by then.

These are all young girls, not the old hard back variety. It is interesting how they (Ipswich prostitutes) are now being paid to keep off the streets, one would think this kind of thing would be enough to stop you for good.

DianeC, do you know what is the going rate for working girls in the UK (usually this is common knowledge) ? I am interested in how big the incentive is for them to keep working the streets.

JB, from the programmes that I have watched over here on the police getting prostitutes off the street, the price seems to change from area to area, for some strange reason, prostitutes nearer London seem to get a higher price (which Suffolk is not too far from London) I presume they ask for the higher price which seems to average around £25 for oral sex, (around $37) to around £50 for full sex ( around $75) this is for street prostitutes. Which is what this case is featured on, whereas, high class brothel workers/escorts can earn around £200 ($300) as the clientele and dangers are completely different.
In the Northern areas, prostitutes seem to be earning around 20% less, ie £20 for oral sex .
It doesn't seem as though the money can outweigh the risks, but I'm guessing that you'd have to be really desperate for money to prostitute your body in the first place. Interestingly, 2 of the prostitutes have been friends since junior school, so whether one has brought the other into the business I don't know.
The second person that the police have arrested has had links in the past to 'lost' estate agent Suzy Lamplugh, who disappeared whilst showing a 'potential' buyer 'Mr Kipper' who has not been traced, around a home that she was selling in 1986, she vanished, and is presumed murdered. She was shipmates with the second suspect on the QE2 liner in the 1980's.
The second suspect is so far refusing to help police enquiries, and is also refusing to answer any questions to the police.
