This is disgusting! Some wicked people just cannot leave kids alone!

LAYTON, Utah (AP) -- Christmas turned X-rated for a 14-year-old Layton boy who found pornography -- not football -- on a video game he received as a gift. Kolton Mahoney says he saw an explicit image on the television screen after putting the Madden NFL 07 game into his new Xbox 360 console. Mahoney's parents also viewed the video and say they were stunned. The game was manufactured by Electronic Arts of Redwood City, Calif. It was purchased in Modesto, Calif., at a Circuit City store by Mahoney's uncle. |
That's not only terrible, but it's also very offensive!
The game had probably been chosen very carefully, as it was supposed to contain a sports game, so I am guessing that this would add to the shock of finding something pornographic on the game.
It's a good job that the teenager reported it to his parents.. many teenagers probably wouldn't !
I wonder, was this a burnt copy? Maybe someone bought it, but did not return the original and instead put the wise crack?
If it was bought from a person who sells burnt copies (yeah, I know they said they bought it from a store - so they say) then I can see this scenario coming into play:
Most times I believe this is done for shock value so that the child becomes curious for more. As is discussed in the Mature Board (I will not go into detail here), this kind of stuff can become addictive, just as games are addictive, so this equates to return investment for the seller.

I wonder if this is 'part' of the game like what I have heard about GTA, where there are some possible nude scenes if you accomplish certain things? If not, then I can see a law suit brewing. |
This will be another case of a Factory worker who has a grudge, and when they are packing the games into boxes/cases a swap is made and a different disked is put into the box.
This happens more often than you think, Its a one off and out of the millions of copies sold there will only be 10-20 like this.
This doesn't make it right or acceptable, but there are 100's of factories and 100's of distribution outlets that pack and stock this game, so to find the one, small minded, person who did this is never going to happen.
The Hot coffee mod on the game you mention was a scripted piece of code written onto the disk and was only available when a certain thing was done at a certain time in the game. Although the developers didn't advertise this and the censors didn't take this into account when they gave it a certificate. That was the major problem there.
I know 14 is young but at least at that age they know alot about sex etc (maybe more than their parents realise).
BUT WHAT IF...
Some one much younger got hold of it... as it was a Football game I expect it is "suitable" for all ages.
A boy the age of 9 could of easily got hold of this!
I feel a law suit coming on also.
