Aged Neglecting

This is very sad but so true. My grandfather was in a nursing home for 20 some years. My dad and us his children visited every chance we could but of 5 children only my dads and us we then regularly. In the home so many nice older people sat and rotted away unvisited. Even Christmas was worse as they were left the also I know several had family because we lived near them. I can just imagine if they were trapped at home with these great children what would have happened.

This is just sick make me want to go out and whip some children and take away their education that their parents provided if nothing else. furious3.gif

Neglecting The Aged Reviews Consumer & Travel Family Culture

Since I've begun managing an apartment building for seniors -- who are supposed to be active and independent, mind you, this is not a nursing home or even "assisted living" -- I see this all the time. Very few of the 50 or so folks who live here have any kind of regular visits from their families. There are widespread issues with having enough to eat because of the cost of medications, and just having someone to check on them regularly. I don't think even 10% of them had somewhere to go during the holidays.

Thankfully, they tend to look out for each other and will be concerned if they haven't seen someone for a few days. They all have families. Where are they?

Aged Neglecting

That is very sad FarSeer but at least they do have you there. I have been debating on buying a bigger property to let both of my sets of parents to have a place to live. They way I know I can keep an eye on them also. I think there should be a public campaign made to encourage the young to help their parents and get more involved.

Good for you, Krakyn, to have the desire to take on your parents. I know it's not easy, and often older folks want to stay "independent" rather than move in with or move near to their kids. It didn't work out living *with* my parents, but we are doing well being close by. Honestly, I wish more folks would be mindful of their parents.
