Dragons

In Western culture, the dragon developed a very different persona, which many aficionados claim is misinterpretation of the tales in which their stories are told. Where Eastern dragons are perceived as good and benevolent, western dragons are all fire, and flinging their tails about, and biting heads off.

I see dragons the same like I see people there is good and bad. Dragons add a good twist to a story even when they are hard to fight. its kinda cool to have them on your side even if it is just for a short time.

Dragons Reviews RPG & Card Board

I like the idea that Dragons are amoral, ancient beasts, forces of nature, of unimaginable size, like entire villages are unknowingly built on top of sleeping ones. That discourages the usual hack and slash "kill it kill it" mindset and makes players sit back and think about how, if at all, they want to have anything to do with a dragon. You going to ride up to it and poke it with your magic sword? Good luck with that - I promise I'll scrape your burned remains off the ground and give you a proper burial.

Everyone puts their own spin on dragons because they are creatures of imagination. Western culture uses the fire shooting bad guy dragons because it is more fun. You have an opponent who is obviously evil and destructive in the largest sense. It is clear cut, it must die, or you must flee. This leaves the western person to be the hero and try his luck at killing it.

Also dragons, being creatures of nature and magic, are probably more enemys to the western culture because that is how they approach the enviroment and the unknown. It is a beast that must be conquered by the strong to protect the weak who cannot. Were as the eastern cultures take a more enlightened approach to such things, in the whole.
