You have to say this for Bush, he sure sticks to his guns. Despited united calls for the AG to step down, Bush refused to hear them.

Looks like this was all the AG's doing. He saw the tea leaves and determined that he was only hurting the President. He did the right thing.

EDITORIAL: GONZALES' RESIGNATION OVERDUE

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales' resignation was long overdue. He was, perhaps, the last person along the Beltway to recognize what an impediment he had become to the Bush administration and the work of the Justice Department.

You have got to be joking! Alberto Gonzales was the target of another smear campaign and he didn't know what was going on? Let's see, first George Soros and moveon.org decided Ashcroft was the man they could tie to some Bush wrong doing, so they rode him unmercifully. Then they thought they could tie Bush to something Rumsfeld had done wrong and rode that horse into the ground. After that they were just sure if they could get to Carl Rove they would run Bush out of office. Then they started in on Alberto Gonzales, and he didn't recognize the pattern? Give me a break!

At this point, why bother? The rabid Bush haters wouldn't believe a word he said. The simple truth is, those attorneys weren't doing the job Bush wanted, so he had Gonzales fire them. Bill Clinton fired every one of them at once when he took office, but that's different! Why George Bush didn't tell George Soros, moveon.org, and the world, "I fired them. So what!" and let the chips fall where they may is a mystery to me. It's also a mystery to me why, after 1 1/2 terms in office he's still trying to make nice to the democrats that are trying to "hate" him out of office, so they can have their power back.

And as long as we're speaking of mysteries, why do the news articles that appear in this forum always show the liberal news headlines. I know, I know, there are very few conservative news papers out there, but they do exist.
