Homes Nursing Antipsychotics

This is so sad. These type of medications need to be used in serious cases, just because the staff does not want to be bothered they are drugging these people? *shaking head* Shame. It is not an easy task to take after the elderly but at the same time if you can't handle the job, just leave!

Comments: We just admitted our father to a nursing home to recover from neck surgery. The surgery appears to have been successful and he is regaining quite a bit of mobility, but mentally he has completely changed; he remembers nothing, he wants nothing, and he sleeps all the time. He says he wants to come home, but how can he recover if all he does is sleep and stare at a curtain all day? He has only been in the home for 5 days. A week ago I was having a political discussion with him--now he doesn't even know how he got in his chair. I think they are giving him antipsychotic drugs to slow down his progress. He is supposed to be home in one month but Medicare will pay for 3. Someone tell me what I can do!
