Lehi Introduction

I was named after my grandfather, not anyone in the Book of Mormon, directly.
Actually, I was named after both of my grandfathers, and am proud of both of their names and heritages.

No greenie, I, being at the end of my sixth decade. My Jacquie and I have raised seven successful children, have 19 grandchildren (so far), and are fully active in the LDS Church.

I served my (first) mission in France and Switzerland in the late 60s. A few years later, I enlisted in the US Army, and received a commission in 1975. A dozen years ago, I retired from the Army Reserve as a Signal Corps Major.

Most of my civilian career has been as a contract technical writer and trainer, having worked for Hewlett-Packard Company, Intel, Ciena Corporation, Frontier Airlines, and several small companies, as well.

My church callings, spanning much of those six decades, have included stake missionary, Sunday School teacher (Gospel Doctrine, several Youth classes), YM counselor, Elders' Quorum President, Primary teacher (Sunbeams through CTR 12), Blazer Scout Assistant Master, Employment Specialist, nursery leader, etc. (I have left out many just to make the list shorter.)

My writing career has required many seminars and classes in information transfer. One pointed out that the human eye can comfortably scan a column of about 30 English characters per line. I may often post with lines that look like this:

If I do, please know that I am
trying to make your reading
speed and comprehension
better.

However, how the final product looks has often depended on a maximization routine built into the web site, and this may not show. On the other hand, I sometimes do not take the time to format my postings, so the result is hit and miss.

I have also invented or otherwise use some neologisms. Among them are "USmerica" and its derivatives. This was originally to honor the request of a Mexican friend who reminded me that Mexico is part of "America", as are Argentina, Chile, Canada (whence my Jacquie), Cuba, and Greenland, inter alia.

Finally, I am a libertarian (note the capitalization, I.e., none). My principal concern as such is the "politicalization" of education, and I am an adamant opponent of so-called "public", more aptly named government-run, tax-funded, schools. Government is rarely efficient (except at promoting itself), and has had a drastic and dire effect on the education of the young of USmerica and that of most other nations on earth. I usually close my missives with an invitation to visit the website for the Alliance for the Separation of School and State (www.schoolandstate.org).

However, schools are not my only peeve with government, so do not be surprised if I rail against other aspects of government run amok.

All the best,
Lehi

Welcome LDS Member

Thanks for posting your introduction message, this forum allows you to interact positively with many people on varying topics such as LDS Church news, Doctrine, the Book of Mormon, etc. However, do keep in mind that LDS Related Discussion is kept only in the LDS Related Boards as this is an International Community.

Be sure to read: The Art of Discussion.

The next thing you should do now is update your profile. You can do this by clicking the link called, 'My Controls' in the top menu. You may wish to venture over to the LDS Deep Doctrine board or the News & RM Section and have a look around.

If you like LDS Based Games then you may also be interested in playing: Nephi RPG where you can 'Journey to the Promised Land' and see if you really know a lot about the Book of Mormon.

Here are some quick links for you to look over when you have time:

Hi Lehi, welcome. It's great to have you here. Thanks for such detailed introduction. The way you wrote your intro (good grammar, separated in paragraphs, etc) is how we expect the posts to be. We have tons of interesting topics in the LDS board, we also have the LDS mature board (for upgraded members and few other requirements must be met). Looking forward to your posts and thoughts.

Introduction Lehi

LDS_Forever:

Thank you for the stroke. It's
always nice to have someone
appreciate my craft--I am a
writer, after all. (Which doesn't
mean I am a typist--I know
there'll be a few mistakes over
time, but I do try to eliminate them.)

A few discoveries rather startled
me. One was the apparently capricious
bolding and italicization of
various words: "find" was one.
I know I did not apply any text
enhancements, at least not
there. I was a bit put off by the
arbitrary capitalization of the
letter "I" in "I.e.," in my first post.
Not enough to be "miffed", but it
doesn't reflect what I actually
typed.

How do we control that sort of thing?

Introduction Lehi

Hi Lehi, may I ask you to keep your posts just flowing? (like you did on your first post and like I am doing right now) I know you said that you like to write like this because is easier to read but we want to keep all the messages alike and flowing. I will edit a couple of your posts for this purpose. Thanks for your understanding.

About your last question, you cannot really do anything about the italics words. Since the community is huge and new members may get lost quickly, we try to ensure they are guided in every step of the way.

Looking forward to your participation,
LDS

Lehi Introduction Introductions & Member Sharing

Lehi, I had to erase your last post on the thread "Must Government Require Schooling?" for the following reasons:

1. You cannot quote an offtopic and reply. Even if you do not "agree" with it as you stated, you are not allowed to do that. If you want to reply an offtopic, you use also an offtopic tag!

2. You cannot post LDS related links in a board that is NOT LDS related. Your thread is in the Education board, NOT in the LDS board. Keep in mind that NOT everyone here is LDS.

3. It seems like you are desperate to promote your site? You have it on your profile already, why you need to keep bringing it up? It was removed from your signature already so please stop trying to (indirectly) spam.

PLEASE, read our constructive policies before posting. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here. Thanks.
