I am glad that I let my kids play in the woods when we went camping. I would take them into the woods with me when they were little and showed them the woods could be a fun place to explore. I did however tell them if they were going to go into the woods to take a walkie talkie that we had. This way if something did happen they could get a hold of me. Our radios have a ten mile range. smile.gif

I am with you Klar. As long as they travel with a buddy things are most apt to be fine. The walkie talkie s a great thing also, also I give my boys a time frame to be back buy. At their ages I still tend to head out with them anyhow. I do like letting them stray a bit on their owns so they develop self confidence as a man.

Yes teaching them about the outdoors and things to do in the outdoors to survive can make a big difference in a childs life. As they get older they can take those lessons and pass them down to their kids. This makes sure that some people will always survive.

I think knowing to survive for a male is even more critical in the confidence area. Also the exploring of how to make stuff from nothing teaches them to be able to try and fix or repairs things on their own. That is you do not have to hire a professional for every thing you do.

Exploring the woods and ponds is what boys are meant to do. To bad society is stifling that natural instinct more and more of late.

Hey now your sounding sexist. Girls can build things explore areas and repair things just as well as boys can. In fact my youngest daughter loves to help in the remodeling of things. Trying to get some of the sons to do this is like pulling teeth. smile.gif

My daughters also loves the outdoors more than the boys too.

Yes girls do also and I likely am a bit biased in this. Not that girls can't or shouldn't but that society needs to stop saying they can't, not the girls; but the boys! We have fought hard for the girls to not be stereo typed, but our boys are not being allowed to be boys any more.
