Do you think Hispanics, especially Mexicans have been made to be the 'symbol' of the typical Immigrant because of the USA? Typical to the UK may be Pakistani / Indian Immigrants and so forth... What are your views?

No, I did not create the below image, found it on the net by someone who is obviously using the same stereotypical profile I am talking about above.

This is a very delicate issue. Most Americans when they see a Hispanic they assume the following:

1. You are from Mexico

2. You are an illegal

3. You don't speak English

As a Hispanic myself, I can't say I blame Americans for stereotyping Hispanics. The facts speak of a huge amount of illegal immigration from this country, "anchor" babies, welfare, criminal activities and the list goes on.

Now saying that, I think Americans do not see as bad (let's say an illegal German immigrant) as they do with an illegal Hispanic.

The other day while searching online, I came across a question in a site where an American woman was trying to get information on how to extend the visa of her Mexican boyfriend who was LEGALLY in the US. The kind of responses this woman got for trying to do that were the most hurtful, cruel and racist I ever seen. Interesting enough, another American woman who was asking the same thing about her French boyfriend who went legally to the US but was OUT of status at the moment (illegal) got normal even encouraging responses from the same group.

I'm sure it's true; as an American with plenty of experience with illegal immigrants specifically from Mexico, I can tell you stories. I come in contact with this every single day, as California becomes more and more populated by illegal Mexican immigrants.

LDS_Forever, US Americans make those assumptions because 95% of the time, they are true. I'm not including the second and third generation of illegal immigrants, who, having been born here, are legal citizens and generally speak reasonable English. But I think I mentioned recently that I met a woman last week who has lived here ALL HER LIFE and still barely speaks English! She's in her 40's!

Why? Because she didn't have to learn it! She's taught in school in Spanish, most businesses have bilingual employees (more second and third generation), there are whole sections of towns with majority Hispanic populations who go to church and do their shopping and banking all in Spanish. California in particular is so accommodating to Mexican immigrants, these folks never have to integrate into American society or culture like immigrants of 100 years ago - even 50 years ago.

In fact, American society and culture is being overwritten by "multiculturalism." The ATM at my bank has 5 different language choices.

While I do not agree with those people being rude and hateful to a woman helping her LEGAL immigrant boyfriend, I do understand their frustration and anger.

Mexicans are the most hard working people I know along with their Central American brethren, who are often courted by big business to work at jobs that they do not want to pay Americans a higher wage. Businees is seeking these hard working!
Mexicans get $10.00 a day in Mexico so $5.00 an hour or so is great for them. That way 80.00 a day is a blessing in USA!

It's about time and they should stay there too. Look at what's happening in Mexico now with the massacres of people some with their heads chopped off. This kind of thing will soon be in the USA if we don't put an end to the Mexicans crossing our borders illegally.
