The story of three children's suffering emerged as their abusive stepfather faced court to admit offences including an attack that left a five-year-old fighting for her life with brain injuries.

When I read news like this...makes me realize what I would probably be capable of if I have any of these bastards (stepdad and "mother") in front of me.
And this makes me even more SICK....

| Neighbours had seen them rummaging for food in rubbish and the five-year-old girl had such a severe case of head lice that hunks of her hair had fallen out. Police found her mother had been treating her with animal flea spray. Neighbours told The Dominion Post the children were sometimes not allowed in their house till dark, at all times of year, and they had seen them huddling under a tree to shelter from rain. "The adults were inside all the time but the children were barred from the house, sometimes till dark," one neighbour said. "They used to come around asking for food. They only had very skimpy clothing and were very skinny. "We did not see the mother and the stepfather much except when they sat in the car outside and smoked." So the neighbors KNEW this all along and did NOTHING? It makes me sick to my stomach!
