There are not many details on the article but this girl could have been raped and who knows what! I still not understand how Trinis can continue living a "normal" life among the jungle we live in. I hope this can be a lesson for those who like to hang out in unsafe places...yes....lovers specially such is this case!

They were ambushed by two gunmen.
One gunman forced the private into the back-seat with him while the second jumped into the driver's seat and drove off.
They drove on to Karamath Street, then on to Target Road before heading up to Caura.
While on Karamath Road, the soldier started fighting with the gunman in the back seat and jumped out of the moving car...

Why do we continue to know Trinidad when anything happens.

We all know not to park in certain places. This article gained prominence because she is Brian Lara's niece.
The guy is an army private and should have known better.
Are we trying to say that Trinidad is the only place that this would have happened.
I am not justifying the original crime or the kidnapping but why do we always have to bring down Trinidad in this way.
Things happen all over the world. In other "civilised" countries, people are aware of the dangers of lurking in dimly lit lonely areas and there are kidnappings in these so called civilised countries as well.

This must be a psychological method of self-defense. Sorry, do not take it personal, but I am literally tired to hear from some Trinis the "happens everywhere" (read some posts in the T&T section so you will know what I am coming from). I do not care if it happens in China, Russia or Papua New Guinea! We are living here! It's not a consolation to me (neither to anyone with simple common sense) that just because it happens in other countries we are suddenly supposed to feel "ok" about it. I do not. I am in "guard" mood constantly.
Lara's niece was silly so was her boyfriend, having said that I do not see how this article brings down Trinidad in any way. It is merely showing reality. You may want to expand as to what you meant by that statement.

As for the story... I hate to say you get what you are asking for, but as usual it seems that some Trinis just do not wish to come down to earth with how dangerous it is to play with their lives. Was that a Mercedes I saw on TV 6? Goodness, more attention!

The "know" Trinidad was an error. Really it was a question of why we act as if this is unusual to Trinidad. I take note of comments by LDS_forever, but I do believe that there are places where you can go in all countries and places NOT to go in all countries.
My point is, we can say that these things should not happen in Trinidad but there is always the approach that when something bad happens it's all about Trinidad and not that a stupid act took place with the expected action.

Of course! My whole point (based on experience) was that some Trinis love to say it happens everywhere...yes...it does but by saying it is not going to make it go away, our focus should be here because we live here, no?

LDS_forever, this is clearly one of those situations where we are each seeing only our side of the discussion. Mine is that when something happens, we can criticise the act that takes place when it is something that is based on irresponsible behaviour on the part of the person. As in this case, Brian's niece and her male friend were in a dimly lit place which can appear to anyone anywhere in the world to be an invitation to rob them or worse.
My main point was, why when disagreeing with what happened do we have to make reference to your comment

It is not in reference to this case itself, if you notice, after that I said I hope this is a lesson for those who like to hang out in unsafe places. My rant was about the whole crime situation we live in.
