Google My Name

The Google Search Engine is famous for finding just about anything on the net, but what about your human name? If I were to input your name in Google would I find anything about you? Have you tried it? What were the results?

Now at one point in time If you had googled my name you would have gotten quite a bit of information about me. Now however, most of my web pages are no longer up and available so there are very few things that actually pertain to me on this search. One hit that I did notice however was actually a quote that I posted here on our new portal. I believe it came up sixth on the list.

My name hides nothing on the net, and I am glad for it to be so since being on the net is my work. Google brings up the main domain for my name.

When I typed my name in, I got a site from NASA back. At first I was confused, and then I remembered why it was there. A few years ago, my mom submitted all of our names to go up in the space shuttle Stardust that launched in 2004, and should be coming back in 2006. My name came up on that.

Below that was an A/B Honor Roll list from 1998 that ran in our News Herald.

I get almost nothing about me. But some stuff about some of my relatives comes up, their web pages and such. But if you put a phone number in, it comes up with your information usually, thats pretty scary.

Let's see, I googled my name and came up with 91,400,000 hits. That's what I get for having two first names. So, turns out I'm a jeweler, author, economist, personal trainer, British Captain and meterologist. That's only on the first page!

Google Name Computer Issues & Video Gaming

I tried google-ing my first name with my new married name and couldn't find anything. I wasn't surprised since I haven't had that name for too long. I tried my ex-husband's last name and found a rating for teaching back when I was still teaching computer science. There was an obscure link to a family tree, but there was not first names. I was surprised that when I clicked on a link referring to my mother that it had when she was born, date of death, burial location and a short article surrounding her death. Sort of took my breath away. You think of the Internet as being so vast and that there would be no possible way that you could be a part. Then you read something like that and you realize that people spend so much time posting vital statistics that are common in county records. I don't know that it needs to be made readily available on the net.
