Upgrading to XP SP2
I recently installed Windows XP but wanted to upgrade and get all the hot fixes in one go. I also did not want to be plagued by all the dreaded reports I read on the net that people suffered as a result of installing SP2, so this is what I did:
1. Go to: https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Browse.aspx
2. The click on the link: Windows XP Service Pack 2 for IT Professionals and Developers
That is it.
There are many other downloads there including betas that microsoft put out - you can test them if you like.
Of all the concerns and dreads, I did not have a single problem when I installed service pack 2. I had to change a few settings like turning off the firewall and such, and I changed a registry setting so it wouldn't keep telling me the firewall was off. But my machine ran as flawlessly as it had before. I really was pleasantly surprised when nothing happened to me when I installed sp2 and rebooted. I expected it to smoke or something when it rebooted.
