Neo-Nazism Spreading

It's a disturbing subculture in Russia that is on the rise. Neo-Nazism and its members are using the Internet to draw recruits to their violent cause. Russian skinheads, who may be responsible for the deaths of about 50 individuals, film themselves beating up the immigrants that are flooding the post-Soviet nation. ABC's Dan Harris sits down with journalist Christof Putzel, who infiltrated the movement for Current TV.

The Left Learned Wrong Lessons from Nazism
By Dennis Prager

The only way to understand what is happening to America in our time - and for that matter, in Europe since World War II - is to understand the left.

And one way to understand the left - and its enormous appeal to many decent people - is to understand what it learned from World War II and the Nazi experience. The lessons people draw from history go a long way toward explaining how they view the world and how they behave.

Unfortunately, virtually everything the left learned from the unique evil known as Nazism has been wrong.

The first lesson was that the right is evil, not merely wrong. Because Nazism has been successfully labelled "right-wing," virtually every right-wing position and leader has been either cynically or sincerely characterized by the left as a danger to civilization. That is why the right is so often labelled fascist and compared to Nazis. Vast numbers of people in the West truly believe that if the right prevails, fascism will follow. Ref. Source 6

A bunch of nut cases, white supremacists, and haters met there… and they have that right in this country. What they don't have the right to do is drive a car into the counter-protestors who have just as much right to be there.

I do not get how a movement like this can have any kind of membership. Its the most low level of thinking on the planet and is solely based on a skin color? This is is no better than making a group of guys with or without bald heads and discriminating on those without hair. rolleyes.gif.

It's tribalism. People have been like this throughout the history of the world. Things are much better now than they were even 50 years ago race relations wise. It will never be totally eradicated. Most people are more comfortable around people of the same race as observed by neighborhoods and church services.

Yes, it is tribalism and yes things are a lot better than they ever were. You are also correct in that is will never be totally eradicated. There will always be prejudice… it's part of the human condition I'm afraid. But when it leads to someone killing another person, we need to deal with it quickly.

Swastika use is on the rise, but among those who understand it least. While swastikas were on display in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, most of the neo-Nazis and white supremacists there used other symbols, from the Confederate battle flag to the Detroit Red Wings logo. The rally reflected a shift in the swastika's place in the iconography of American hate. It is more popular than ever among non-ideological haters - kids, vandals, anyone out to shock or rebel or express a personal grudge against someone who happens to be Jewish, black, Hispanic or gay. But the more organized hate groups have begun to shun the swastika on the assumption that its infamy distracts from their message. Ref. USAToday.
