In this series of Threads I will propose a situation and a possible number of equipment you can take with you up to a certain maximum. Choose from the possible list of items and post your comments as to why you chose what you did.

Situation:

You are a passenger in a small boat that will soon sink. You make it on to an open inflatable raft. You have no idea where you are and do not see anything for miles. You have limited time to get the following items before the plane blows. What will you take?

1. Paddle
2. Can of soda
3. Tin of sardines
4. Wrist watch
5. Handkerchief

8. Compass

10. Fishing rod

13. Wallet with $100 in it

16. Bottle of salt tablets

Equipment Survival

Hmm... never really dealt with open water survival. I suppose the number one concern would be drinkable water. You can go without food for a long time especially if you're not exerting yourself, so that's not a huge issue.

1. Paddle - Not a great idea to move far from where the ship sank, but it may be wise to keep the option available.

15. Pot - Water collector/storage

17. Pillow - Attempt to make a improvised water filter. Probably won't work well, but it's better than nothing.

19. Small mirror - Signaling is the most important thing you could probably do

8. Compass (last item addon, don't see much use for it though)

For me the main thing here will be lasting as long as possible.

The spear gun may be a good idea for anything passing near the raft - shark - dolphin - turtle, whatever can make good food. The rest is obvious.
