An elderly woman has been jailed in Cyprus after receiving payment for "magic" that involved breaking an egg in a man's underpants.

I just do not understand how people can be so vulnerable and fall for all these lies. I suppose some individuals are really desperate

| The court in Nicosia jailed Hayriye Rezvanoglu, 69, for 20 days for fraud. She was ordered to return 500 Cyprus pounds (£618; $1,243) given to her by Thanos Savvides, who had asked her to lift a "curse". Her suggested remedy involved an egg, his underpants, a spoon and a urine sample, the Associated Press reports. The woman reportedly told the man that he would die in his sleep if he did not bring her a total of 5,000 Cyprus pounds for lifting the curse.
