Don't you all think these charges seem a bit exaggerated? It seems to me that the police officer just got very angry at the whole situation.

Cruelty Animal Charged Man
The charge of animal cruelty should not be used. As most states look upon a police working dog as a officer the charges should be assault on a police officer. Yelling at a police dog is the same as yelling at a police officer. Neither one of those options are going to get you very far.

Cruelty Animal Charged Man
I don't think that it's right what the man did, but I'm not sure whether it warranted being arrested and charged for abusive behavior towards a police officer, considering it was a dog.
I know that the dog is trained and looked after by the police, but I'm not sure whether I'd call it an offence against an officer!

That is the thing though. Most people look at a police dog as an animal. The law looks at a police dog as a police officer. Anything you do to a police dog carries the same offense as one would get it they did that to a (human) police officer. You would not go up to a police officer and start yelling obscenities at them so why would you do it to a police dog. If you are the kind of person who wants to yell at things you should go yell at someone elses dog because a police dog will get you in trouble.
