Charcoal is my preferred medium for drawing, either that or nupastels (soft pastels). Especially drawing people. But I definitely prefer charcoal pencils to sticks or vine. And I love the chamois lift-out technique, when working on white paper. The reason that I like charcoal and nupastel is that it is so easy to use - you get nice lines, it blends well, and it is easy to erase with the chamois. And I just like the look of it. Maybe I will see if I can get some pics of charcoal head exercises from the class I took.
I love charcoal art. I took an art class for a year and we we taught first with charcoal.
It is very easy to do and you are able to blend colours easily. Also if you are a beginner in art it teaches you to draw and to learn how to use colour.
