One Word Wonders

Do you often use one word to describe many feelings, situations or events? For instance in California and other parts of the US many use 'like' in various forms to describe all sorts of things... "Like it's totally cool, I mean like outta sight, like really". Is there ONE word that you use for everything?

Actually, I disagree with "like" being a description of anything. "Like" is sort of a habit kids get into, a "stop gap" word that's kind of like "Um" or similar words to just be saying something when you have nothing else to say.

The latest in Cali slang is "sweet!" And something from online (that I'm not really sure what it means) is "roxor". Maybe one of you young 'uns can clue us in.

Radical (Rad for short)
Wicked

You can always tell when the latest slang has gone "old hat" when the elemetary kids and/or the parents are saying it. I still say "cool" and "awesome" and even sometimes "groovy," but not one particular word that says it all.

I don't have any stopgap words, nor any single words that I overuse (not that I know of anyway).

However, I think that "cool" is still one of the best. And "groovy" reminds me of that old song, "Groovy Kind of Love" by Phil Collins. Great word for a lot of things.

In my neck of the woods, we say "Dang, Jina!" as an expression of anything. I have no doubt that it has not been heard by many people, because it is a local invention, but around here we use it a lot.

I use the word "Interesting" an awful lot, usually preceded by "Hmm" Most often I use it when someone has just said something I don't know quite how to respond to.

My coworkers use "Sweet!" a lot. And "Gaaah! Idiots!" I think a lot of that comes from the movie "Napoleon Dynamite."

One my husband uses too often with me is "If you say so." That one drives me nuts!

One Word Wonders

My Husband went fishing yesterday with a few friends, one was from Liverpool, which is about 45 miles from where we live, and apparently they finish every sentence off with 'Lar'.

My husband said it drove him mad. Especially when it's said a few hundred times a day. eg-- there's a parking space over there lar.

I'm going to get some food lar etc etc.

I just hope it doesn't catch on here!

I don't use any stop words but every so often I get stuck on a word I use a lot and then suddenly I change to a different one for a while then I change again.
