Biodiesel

Biodiesel from sugarcane more economical than soybean

America's oil consumption far exceeds that of every other country in the world. What's more, it's unsustainable. Soybeans, an important dietary protein and the current primary source of plant-based oils used for biodiesel production, only yield about one barrel per acre. New research shows that engineered sugarcane can produce up to 17 barrels of oil per acre. Ref. Source 2f.

That would make sugar prices go up and thus all the foods that require sugar. There needs to be a real fuel source that can give us the power of gasoline without mashing up the environment.
