Hand To Talk

I can see how this will get some frustrated. I have a older computer set up for youngsters to pay some simple games on. They really learn quick when you show them how to work a mouse.

My boys have used the computer as soon as they were able to move the mouse. I do like the idea of the table and touch technology. Be cool to play game son and do art work ad things as a group.

I am sure that as the technology develops more and more there will be bigger touch type screens that will allow us to interact even more with a computer. I look forward to the day where you can talk to the computer and tell it what it to and have it do all the work. smile.gif

My grandsons play computer games all the time. My own sons started out playing RPG's as preschoolers. It is one reason why their reading skills were several grades above their age level. And their math and problem solving abilities are amazing.

My son was using a computer back in the early 90s when I first bought one, then his dad bought an Apple to have at home. He was 10 or 11 at that time. He is now a computer whiz and incredibly fast typist. My daughter started learning with computer when she was probably 3, and is very comfortable around them. She still has a lot to learn, but she "gets it" about how they work, etc.

I think it's a great idea to teach them young, because they will be around for a long time to come, and there is so much great stuff designed for kids. New technology will be awesome to watch with the next generation. At the same time, it should be made a little safer for children to experience the internet without the threat of the really awful stuff that's out there.

I can agree with you there FarSeer there needs to be a safer internet for young children to surf. The sad thing is there is no way to make it a safer place. IF they do make a safe area some teen or young adult will hack into it just to prove they can.

I have seen the new technologies that are starting to come out that allows young children the opportunity to grow and learn in many ways. I can only see this as getting better and better with time.

One reason why I would never allow a computer in a child's room. Too isolated. Our computers have always been in the family common areas where we are aware of what is been experienced by the children. There has only been one problem in 15 years or so. That was an afternoon when a neighbor kid came over to play while I had run to the store. My son was upstairs getting his paintball supplies together while "Nick" surfed the net. Only time I found porn sites on my history. Never before or since. Last time Nick was allowed on our computers.

Rather off topic, but...
I have used Dogpile rather than Google or another search engine for forever and have never had a problem with accidentally stumbling acoss porn or other inppropriate sites. The only time that has happened has been when using a search engine other than Dogpile.
