Some interesting facts regarding the case against him:

QUOTE

"Amnesty International considers Leonard Peltier to be a political prisoner whose avenues of redress have long been exhausted.... Amnesty International recognizes that a retrial is no longer a feasible option and believes that Leonard Peltier should be immediately and unconditionally released."

    -- Amnesty International, April 6, 1999

QUOTE

On June 26, 1975 two FBI agents, Mr. Jack Coler and Mr. Ron Williams, entered the Jumping Bull Ranch, private property. They allegedly sought to arrest a young Native American man they believed they had seen in a red pick up truck. A large number of AIM supporters were camping on the property at the time. They had been invited there by the Jumping Bull elders, who sought protection. Many non-Aim persons were present as well. A shoot out began between the two vehicles, trapping a family with small children in the cross fire. From throughout the ranch, people screamed that they were under attack, and many hurried to return fire. When the skirmish ended, the two FBI agents were dead. They had been wounded, and someone had shot them at close range through the heads. Today, the United States Attorney admits that no one knows who fired the fatal shots. The red pick up truck escaped from the ranch and was never found or identified.

QUOTE

Mr. Leonard Peltier was one of several high level AIM leaders present during the shoot out. Murder charges were brought against him, as well as his two friends and colleagues, Dino Butler and Bob Robideau, who had been present throughout the incident. Butler and Robideau stood trial separately from Leonard Peltier, who had fled to Canada, convinced he would never receive a fair trial in the United States. At the trial of Butler and Robideau a key prosecution witness, Mr. Draper, admitted that he had been threatened by the FBI and as a result had changed his testimony upon the agents' instructions, so as to support the government's position . The jury found both men not guilty. They found that there was no evidence to link the defendants to the fatal shots. Moreover, the exchange of gun fire from a distance was deemed to have constituted an act of self defense.

I encourage you to look through this web page and make your own judgement. I for one had never even heard of him, being born the year he was put in jail, but I think that he is not guilty. The amount of undisputed evidence in the case that points to not guilty is amazing. Its hard to see just how he was convicted outside of prejudice for who and what he was.

Parole Hearing to Be Held Tuesday for Imprisoned Native American Activist Leonard Peltier

The sixty-four-year-old activist has been in prison for thirty-three years and is now being held at the Lewisburg prison in Pennsylvania. Peltier was convicted of killing two FBI agents during a shootout on South Dakota's Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in 1975. At his last hearing, the Parole Commission originally denied Peltier parole in 1993 based on their finding that he "participated in the premeditated and cold blooded execution of those two officers." However, the Parole Commission has since said it "recognizes that the prosecution has conceded the lack of any direct evidence that [Peltier] personally participated in the executions of the two FBI agents." Peltier has long maintained his innocence and is widely considered a political prisoner who was not granted a fair trial. Ref. Source 4

Peltier Leonard

It is a shame that Leonard Peltier is still in prison for something he never even did. Also, the shooting of those agents should be seen as self defense. The agents should not have been on that land. Please read about and investigate this injustice if you do not already know about it. Do what you can for humanity; write your congressman, call the white house every Friday, write Leonard, and donate to his causes.

Imprisoned Native American Activist Leonard Peltier Again Denied Parole

The imprisoned Native American activist Leonard Peltier has been denied parole again. The US Parole Commission told the sixty-four-year-old Peltier on Friday that his release would "depreciate the seriousness of [his] offenses" and "promote disrespect for the law." It was Peltier's first full parole hearing in fifteen years, and he will not be eligible for parole again until July 2024, at the age of seventy-nine. We speak with Eric Seitz, Leonard Peltier's attorney. Ref. Source 6
