Half of Younger Americans Have Pre-Existing Conditions:

A new study by the Department of Health and Human Services has found that 129 million Americans under the age of 65-roughly half of that demographic-have medical conditions that could keep them from getting insurance, reports say. Ref. Source 2

Odd statistic...64 million Americans under the age of 65 have medical conditions that would keep them from getting insurance. With only about 50 million uniunsured, that says that about 85-90% of the uninsured are uninsurable. Strange...specially since a significant number of those in that below 65 range are the healthy 18-30 year range.

Also, I love the heading...Younger Americans. While I am flattered to be included in that range of young people below age 65, I hardly look at myself as a youngster.

Vincenzo exactly and this is one of those things that make go "hmmmm" who is really going to benefit from this single payer health care? I have deep concerns.

There will be a small number that will benefit from the forced single payer system that is to be applied on a universal basis. The first time a 20 year old is hit with the choice between paying the penalty or picking up the insurance that they undoubtably wont use...I am sure you will hear a few complaints. Blue Cross and Blue Shield target a specific group and the do a decent job. There are programs designed to address a very specific group that is in need of welfare. They broad blanket approach is nice in that it will cover all, but there are those that don't want the covering or would prefer to keep their current options and not jump into the socialized medicine pool. The group of people that we are trying to cover should recieve a very specialized program (like Blue Cross and Blue Shield) which would be far less expensive to implement and target those that are really in need. The Constitution is all for providing welfare for those in need.

Honestly, I see this is a huge benefit for the employers out there. After WWII, when there was a US Wage Freeze, employers offered things like paid health insurance as an enticement to get you to work for them. Employees liked it and never wanted to give it up. Ask any HR or Accounting person today and they will tell you that it is part of your compensation package (along with your salary and other things). If universal health care is fully incorporated, the companies will stop their health insurance packages and provide their employees with what the universal healthcare cost. For some, this is actually going to provide less coverage and it will cost less that what the company was paying. That difference will end up going to the company's bottom line. The insurance companies are not fighting it because the government is going to force millions more into insurance or be fined.

So say what you want about Blue Cross and Blue Shield but they are working. What we need is the next installment that catches those that are deemed uninsurable...call it Blue Shelter.

Want the best health care ever? Take care of yourself, stop eating donuts and rib eye steaks for breakfast and dinner. Get some exercise with healthy fruits and vegetables so no doctor or medical intervention will be necessary. America has a love for medical personnel maybe that's why they want to ensure someone pays for the visits.

I definitely agree with taking care of yourself! The recently departed Jack LaLane lived past 90 subscribed to that theory and looked great very late in life. However, having lived in asia where they do have a lot of socialized medicine, I can say that the US is very not obsessed with doctors and medical treatments. These countries that I have lived in in asia are...and it is directly related to the "free/socialized" medical program. In Taiwan, people routinely went to the hospital for the most mundane issues...because it was nearly free. They liked going to the doctor. I can see the same happening in the US with a socialized medical program...because it will be thought of as nearly free.

Chief Justice John Roberts led the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision upholding President Obama's sweeping health care law.

The president is expected to speak later today on the ruling that supports the core legislative accomplishment of his administration.

The court decided that the individual mandate that requires all Americans to have health insurance will stand and is considered a tax by the court, making it constitutional.

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote about the individual mandate, citing the taxing clause: "It is reasonable to construe what Congress has done as increasing taxes on those who have a certain amount of income, but choose to go without insurance. Such legislation is within Congress" power to tax."

The court also ruled that the federal government may not remove Medicaid funding from states that refuse to take part.

Voting to uphold the Affordable Care Act were Are oberts and Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. The dissenters were Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. Ref. CNN
