This is an old article but it talks about the extreme challenges this mother has to go through. She calls living at home as "Bondage" And being imprisoned by her son:

The other part of this is that people see the boy's actions as violent and may in turn become violent with him:

"His behaviour is an embarrassment, especially around people who don't understand," his mother said mournfully, noting that she also fears others hurting him because of his behaviour, especially when he wanders away from the home at nights. My heart goes to this mother who is just trying to do her best with what she has given. The Jamaican government needs to step in and help this woman! The guy needs help and great improvements can be made with proper treatment.

Its really tough when you have to deal with this alone, no one understands and no one cares. They think pitying you somehow helps but most times that is not the worst because you are scorned as though you purposely planned to have an autistic child.
