Trinidad Private Special Needs Schools

Within a social group a mother with a special needs child that was placed in a private school said among other things,

international QUOTE
"It is a private school he is at but to be honest I don't think that schools or most teachers have the patience to deal with our special ones."

My response to this - That is exactly my point when people say "Send them to school", it as if there is this magical long list of schools with CARING, TRAINED, EXPERIENCED teachers just waiting to take care of your child without having to sell your soul to pay their school fees and even so, as in this example PRIVATE does not mean better.

Comments: The special needs schools in the north are very expensive. There are some in south and central that are more reasonable but the groups are mixed and the assistants not as well trained. There should be a standard for this like abroad. You cannot just open a school and say it is special needs unless everyone working there is equipped in both equipment and qualifications.

The government should NOT be paying anything for PRIVATE schools. This is the government's responsibility to ensure that the education of ALL special needs children are met just as they do with neurotypical children. Stop this nonsense of favoritism by only helping the brightest and know that a country is only as good as to how it treats the most vulnerable in society.
