I was surprised by the team of Warner and Panday for this general election. What do they think that is really going to do?

Surprising is an understatement. Yesterday the Express had the headline that Kamla was ahead. All of a sudden this morning, the headline is that Jack and Panday are the new JOINT leaders and Kamla is out? What a shock?
How niave are we really? And we are supposed to believe that there is no leader proposed of they win?
Anyone who has a short memory can remember Mr Panday's reputation with alliances.
By the way...where is Ramesh?
Sell me a bridge instead.

Funny you mention Ramesh, I was surprised that he was not even shown in recent media clips. Needless to say it is disappointing that he threw his wait behind the UNC. Now, as for Pamela, if the UNC had one good thing in my opinion it iw Pamela, but now that they have sidelined her to put the worst of the UNC: Panday and Warner, I can only say good bye folks you have just sent your party down the tubes. No one is going to vote for a party that has no real leader and not even a motto. What they are actually doing is strengthening the PNM.

Of course, that's why the PNM is going to win. The supporters of the UNC are FURIOUS and with good reason! Even Cadiz pulled out of the alliance when he saw they were not going to choose a leader and he said he felt betrayed and he was accused of "lack of experience" rolleyes.gif

These people make me sick, you are leaving Pamela that was their better chance and put old corrupt Jack Warner and Panday. Geez. What a mess.

MONEY TALKS! It is Jack Warner and Panday's money that are supporting the party in millions of dollars and even though they tried to speak to them about this, they are sticking to their guns. These people makes me literally SICK, they are not concerned over the country at all but they want power to continue stealing and making deals. SHAME ON BOTH OF THEM!

Pamela says she is a team player, will she support the new team?

CHAOS has erupted in the UNC Alliance following a groundswell of protest over the move by Basdeo Panday to sideline Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar in favour of Jack Warner as head of the Alliance.

The shock move took place on Thursday night after the Alliance met at the House of Chan restaurant in Emerald Plaza, St Augustine, for nearly six hours to thrash out the leadership issue.

Panday himself had proposed on Tuesday that Persad-Bissessar be the party's prime ministerial candidate, and the rest of the Alliance's leadership council, save for Jack Warner, had endorsed her.

Warner returned from New York on Thursday to attend the session, where sources said Panday took a surprising about turn, reverting to his original position that the Alliance contest the election leaderless, and a prime minister be chosen from the person who won his or her seat.

Initially, sources said, all members, including Warner, felt that a leader was needed, but Panday was insistent.

About two hours into the session, Warner relented and agreed with him, and three hours later, won the support for the Panday-Warner duo from the majority of members, except YesTT's head, Stephen Cadiz.

Sources said when it became clear to Cadiz that the party was not going to choose a leader, he expressed his anger at having been betrayed, only to be reprimanded for his "lack of political experience", a source said.

Cadiz decided to pull out of the Alliance then and there, but that was just the beginning of the drama.

After the meeting ended at 7 p.m., Panday and Warner left to attend a UNC executive mobilisation meeting for Sunday's rally at the Chaguanas West constituency office.

Just after 10 p.m., sources said, members began receiving reports about a massive outburst of protest from supporters against the decision to go leaderless and to sideline the popular Persad-Bissessar.

Sources said several supporters in various constituencies were cancelling maxi-taxis hired to go to the rally, as well as returning T-shirts.

By yesterday, this had increased to some members like Dr Anderson Morris from the San Juan/Barataria office and Raymond Pallackdharrysingh officially resigning.

By 11 p.m., Panday and the other executive members were planning how to "patch things up" with Persad-Bissessar, sources said.

After they saw Internet reports of yesterday's newspapers on the issue that night, they then decided they needed to do damage control, sources said....

It's Kamla not Pamela.
My concern in Cadiz is "Why was he there in the first place? Who ever doubted the value of Jack Warner's money (aka maybe FIFA's) in buying whomever and whatever he wants.
Kamla has been invited to join the COP, but then I go right back to what I've said before. Wouldn't it then be UNC without Panday and Jack Warner.
We all see through that ploy. UNC will NEVER accept Jack and Panday is there to seek acceptance. It's gone too far now though. People will NOT accept that.

Thanks for the correction kaisofan.

As I was reading the Express today, if is true that she will remain with the party in full support of Panday and Warner, she is so silly! rolleyes.gif Panday want to offer her the job of President of the country, the same position he rejected several times because in his own words "it's just a ceremonial role and bears no real power". Is he afraid of a strong woman and trying to get rid of her? Kamla should leave, she is dumb to stay with these losers.

Dual leaders of the UNC Alliance, Basdeo Panday and Jack Warner, have denied that there's a fallout in the party over the leadership issue.

"I assure you there is none. We spoke last night (Thursday); there is no fallout from Mrs Bissessar," said Panday.

Both men maintained that all is well and that Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is committed to the party.

"In my first act as chairman of the UNC Alliance, I have asked Kamla to stand with me in moving Trinidad and Tobago forward through a UNC Alliance victory," Warner said at a news conference at UNC-A headquarters in Port of Spain yesterday.

"She replied, 'I have never left your side Jack,' and so Kamla will play a critical role in our process of unifying the country and party and I salute her dedication and loyalty," Warner said.

Although it appeared that Panday and Warner were doing damage control yesterday, Panday insisted this was not so.

He added, however, that "any decision that is taken in politics in a divisive country like Trinidad has fallout... the problem is... is the fallout more than the fall in?"

Panday said a prime minister will be selected from among the UNC-A candidates who are successful in the election.

"In this regard, there has been an outpouring of support for current Leader of the Opposition Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Such is the nature of politics. We see it all over the world where there are even primaries to select the best candidates," said Panday.

"I want to assure you that Mrs Persad-Bissessar will continue to play an important role in this election campaign and the UNC-A looks forward to her playing this pivotal role. Her political experience is vital to our winning. I also know that she is fully committed," Panday continued.

On a statement released yesterday, Kamla said:

QUOTE
"I am UNC. I remain UNC," Kamla Persad-Bissessar said in a statement issued to the media yesterday. In the statement, which she signed as Opposition Leader, UNC Alliance Leadership Council Member, Deputy Political Leader UNC and Siparia MP, she stressed:

"I am fully committed to do everything it takes to remove the PNM and bring back good governance to our country.

"I have worked steadfastly towards this goal at my constituency and at the national level.

"The PNM is the enemy.

"I will do whatever it takes to remove the PNM and restore responsible government to our country.

"Mobilisation in the constituency of Siparia continues apace in preparation for tomorrow's UNC Alliance Victory Rally at Mid Centre Mall, Chaguanas where I will be in attendance and where I will speak as scheduled.

"In this vein, I appeal to all of my supporters and all supporters of the UNC Alliance to come out in full force at the Victory Rally as we accelerate the battle against the PNM."

Well the Thread is not so much about her, we have one specifically dealing with her that we can continue this, but I think it is one of pride. For years she has been backing Panday and it will look off for her to give up now. The UNC Alliance is supposed to have their victory rally today at Mid Centre Mall, lets see what they say.

Well the Victory Rally went off yesterday. I am not sure if all the hub bub present really reflects the thinking of the general population though. If you notice the lineup, except for Warner, is the same as it was last time. Ramesh once again is taking a leading role after Panday said he would never see him in the party again. Politics in Trinidad is like a passing wind, sometimes it blows hot and sometimes cold, but one thing is for sure: it blows.

One interesting point Ramesh made about the COP is that if the people vote for COP then it is like voting for the PNM, because some will vote for COP and some for UNC and the divided vote will enable PNM to win.
